"－－菅野さんはジャズがそれほど好きではないと伺いましたが、その人がどうして『Tank!』をはじめとする、「カウボーイビバップ」（※3）のサントラを作れたのか、本当に不思議です。

菅野よう子：私の非常に少ない情報の中でのジャズっていうのは、みんながず～っと同じことを繰り返してて長い！ どこ聴いて良いのか分からない！（笑） 監督の渡辺信一郎さん（※4）にジャズの良さを聞いてみると、その人なりにあるんですよね、「人生が……」とか「新しい人間性が……」とか。多分凄いものがあるに違いないんですけど、でも全然分からない！ 絶対無理！（笑）

で、自分で面白いと思えるフォーマットを作成したらあんな感じに。あの時、私は演奏者が楽しんで弾ける曲にしようと思ってましたね。"
